Naturopathic medicine is rooted in the principles of doing no harm, stimulating your healing ability, treating the cause and the whole person, prevention, and education on your health. Therapies offered to accomplish this are botanical medicine, with an emphasis on Chinese herbal formulas, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, physical medicine, exercise, movement, nutrition, counseling and supplementation.
Acupuncture is the ancient healing tradition of insertion of thin, solid, sterile needles in specific points in the body to treat the overall condition. The needles do many things, including tonifying and dispersing qi and blood, and balancing yin and yang in the body. Medical research on acupuncture shows that it increases neurotransmitters, balances the nervous system, and promotes secretion of hormones in the body. The overall effect and goal is to bring balance to the body, mind, and spirit. Needle insertion can be felt, but is often not painless. Once all needles are inserted, there should be very minimal sensation of the needles in the body. Combining acupuncture with Chinese herbal formulas is a great way to get the most out of treatments. They complement each other and strengthen the effects of each treatment.
Dr. Katie received her ND and MsOM from Lombard's National University of Health Sciences. She began her dedication to natural health 12 years ago when she became a yoga enthusiast. She instructed various fitness classes while expanding her botanical knowledge. She's had a lot of hands on experience with plants and enjoys making her own herbal products. She is most impressed with Chinese botanical medicine because the system of learning it is more specific and abstract at the same time The science behind the biochemical changes in the body is combined with the poetic action of Chinese medicine. This leads for beautiful synergy and balance with every formula.
